Jang Geum's Dream Commentary: Season 1, Episode 4

Season 1, Episode 4: Mom's Table

Watch the episode: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w2Pahea-0lw

All I can say about this episode is that everyone in the palace is so kind and compassionate, rushing about to help Jang Geum whether they know her or not. And when Jang Geum was making food for the soldiers, Big Red even ate the bad rice to defend Jang Geum, though it cost him his teeth. The things people do in the name of love! Speaking of which, I pair Blue and Jang Geum together very hard now.

Now, to when the Two Stooges locked themselves in a shed and Big Red came after, clearly implying he had some "business" to do. It wasn't very clear, but the "shed" the Stooges were hiding in was actually an outhouse, with the old-fashioned Korean hole-in-the-ground toilets. They're still around today, so just be careful which washroom stall you choose, should you ever visit South Korea!

This was so far the only episode that made me cringe, at this line:

I gagged a little at how cheesy it was, although it was sweet. That line though, was the cheesiest of cheesy things that could possibly be aired, although it's definitely not the only series that tried to pull it off. Still, putting a line like that in the script is something I would avoid.  "Jang Geum" is pretty much everything a pitiful show isn't, so I wasn't used to it.

It's amazing how much positive influence Jang Geum had by the end of the episode. I think this was a way of telling the audience to not be afraid to rock the boat. Jang Geum rocked the boat alright, and we're glad she did! As the story goes on, so does the boat-rocking!

I'm sorry I didn't have much to say in this episode. There just wasn't much to clarify or comment on. It's times like these when I need your questions more than ever! Thank you for reading, and stay curious about the wonderful Korean culture and history!
